Firm Profile

Have you ever needed legal advice, but felt helpless because of the negative perception of lawyers or potential cost? If so, there is help. You should consider Alagood & Cartwright, P.C. – a local law firm built upon personal service and candid disclosure. Alagood & Cartwright, P.C. believes that their clients, no matter how big or small, whether institutions or individuals, deserve quality service and honest legal advice.

The firm was founded by Scott Alagood and Brian Cartwright, former shareholders of Philips Hopkins. Scott is a Denton native and graduated from Denton High School. His practice began in 1992. While he specializes in Commercial and Residential Real Estate, he also performs Civil Litigation and Small Business Consulting, including forming corporations, limited liability companies, and limited partnerships. Scott is board certified in Commercial and Residential Real Estate by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He has been twice voted a Texas Super Lawyer by his peers. Scott and wife Dawn have two sons, Ryan and Jack, and live near Lake Ray Roberts.

Brian Cartwright grew up in the Air Force. He started his private practice in 1991, after serving in the Air Force Jag Corps. Brian was the president of the Denton County Bar Association in 2005-2006. He lives in Highland Village with wife Terri and daughter Madison. Brian practices Civil Litigation and Wills, representing and defending parties in Personal Injury, Insurance, Commercial, Business, and Real Estate matters.  Brian is board certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

The firm’s philosophy is based upon a solid understanding of the law. “An attorney must consider all factual and legal parameters as well as the practical and emotional implications that exist,” states Cartwright. “We provide our clients with options,” adds Alagood. Cartwright says, “By exploring and explaining options, clients can make informed decisions.”

“While our practice includes federal, statewide and out of state legal matters,” Cartwright expounds, “we provide North Texans with quality legal services through close personal attention.” Consultations with Alagood & Cartwright are always with a licensed attorney. “We treat people the way we want to be treated,” explains Cartwright.

Alagood & Cartwright is pleased that the majority of clients are referred by other clients and attorneys or are former clients with new matters. “In the end,” Alagood explains, “the important thing is that the client’s matter was handled properly, professionally, and the client was an informed part of the process.”
