Texas road conditions may play a role in fatal accident

On Behalf of | Sep 23, 2022 | Personal Injury

Many factors can contribute to the likelihood that an accident will take place, including speeding, distraction and more. What some Texas drivers overlook is the possibility that the condition of certain roads may also place some motorists at risk. A recent fatal accident involving a semi-trailer has caused many to question the condition of infrastructure in certain places throughout the state, including in Allen.

A tragic crash

The crash happened as a large truck went off an overpass at the intersection of U.S. 75 and Stacy Road. Video footage captures the truck going off the side, then bursting into flames. Law enforcement officers who are investigating the accident say they believe the truck struck another vehicle just before it went over the side of the overpass.

The barrier wall along the side of the overpass is seven years old, and it was not originally designed to stop a vehicle the size and weight of a large truck. Experts say that the type of barrier wall installed at the time the road was expanded is not capable of stopping and containing a big rig during a major crash. The investigation into how the wall contributed to the accident is ongoing.

Safe roads prevent deaths

Texas authorities are responsible for ensuring that the infrastructure and conditions of the roads do not pose an unnecessary risk for motorists. After a tragic accident like this semitrailer crash, family members are often left to pick up the pieces. Depending on the factors that contributed to the accident, it may be possible to secure compensation through a wrongful death claim.
